A wide variety of advanced wound care product are used at Eloquent in order to provide the best possible opportuntiy for wound healing. Products include antimicrobial dressings to be used in infected wounds as well as different absorptive dressings, gel dressings, alginates, Hydrocolloids, foams, etc.
Various forms of compression bandages are used to treat vascular conditions in both the lower and upper limbs. Compression bandaging is regarded worldwide and according to best practice guidelines as the gold standard in treating leg ulcers. Once a vascular assessment is done the correct system is chosen for the indicated underlying vascular problem.
Total Contact Casting (TCC) is regarded as the gold standard in treatment of plantar diabetic foot ulcers. This entails the making of a custom fit fibreglass cast in order to redistribute pressure on the foot. This type of cast allows the patient to be mobile whilst still having an ulcer and is a temporary measure untill the wound is closed and the patient can wear shoes.
Near Infra Red (NIR) and light therapy (also known as photobiomodulation (PBM)) is used as adjunctive therapy to enhance wound healing in both superficial and deep tissue injuries as well as to impact on inflammation, pain and oedema. Red light has a specific impact on increased circulation and a decrease in inflammation. Light therapy forms an integral part of wound healing at Eloquent.
Intermittent Vacuum Therapy (IVT) with the VACUMED® device represents innovation and state of the art technology in the battle against leg and vascular diseases. The principles of IVT lies in improving blood flow, increasing oxygen uptake and improving lymphatic drainage; thus enhancing the body's natural ability to fight disease, heal and recuperate from injury.
Indications for use include:
- Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) (venous leg ulcers, varicose veins)
- Post-thrombotic syndrome
- Oedema (swelling)
- Ulcers and non-healing wounds
- Post-operative / post-traumatic swellings
- Peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAD / PAOD) (poor circulation)
- Diabetic neuropathy (burning feet)
- Chronic pain (legs, back, wounds, arthritis)
- Enhanced wound healing
- Restless legs syndrome
- Rehabilitation and recovery of sport and other injuries including fractures
- Lymphoedema - tissue firming/toning/reshaping/cellulite treatment
VACUMED® functions like a second heart, sucks fresh blood into the feet and legs and pumps used blood or lymph back into the trunk. A pleasant side effect of this “space treatment” is that lymph-dependent waste products, the substances that cause cellulite, are soaked up and excreted. [watch video]
No astronaut can manage without this negative pressure treatment in space. This is because in the weightlessness of space the heart is too weak to supply the legs with sufficient blood as there is no gravity.
NPWT promotes wound healing by applying a vacuum through a special sealed dressing. The continued vacuum draws out fluid from the wound and increases blood flow to the area. The vacuum may be applied continuously or intermittently, depending on the type of wound being treated and the clinical objectives. Typically, the dressing is changed two to three times per week.
The ankle-brachial pressure index (ABPI) is the ratio of the blood pressure at the ankle to the blood pressure in the upper arm (brachium). Compared to the arm, lower blood pressure in the leg is an indication of blocked arteries due to peripheral artery disease (PAD). ABIs are calculated easily and accurately in 6 minutes without the need to rest the patient. Results are automatically calculated, interpreted and displayed with Pulse Volume wave forms on the LCD panel.
Stem cells, specifically those taken from adult fat Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSC), offer a multitude of potential and emerging applications. Stem-cells are used at Eloquent in collaboration with ReDermis (R) in treating a multitude of complex wounds and skin conditions.
ActiGraft technology uses the patient's own blood to create a whole blood clot tissue. This blood clot is then directly applied to the wound where it promotes the natural healing processes of the body. The ActiGraft whole blood clot contains whole blood, extracellular matrix and platelets to kick-start the stalled wound into healing.
